The different faces of Puglia

With a few exceptions, most of Firefly’s properties for sale in Puglia are located in two main areas of the region: the Adriatic Riviera and the Salento Peninsular.

They are quite distinct areas, each with its own unique character, and it is important for property seekers to understand the differences and decide which area better suits their needs.

The Adriatic side centres mainly on the coastal and inland towns between Bari and Brindisi, two cities each served with international airports and frequent budget flights from the UK.

It is an area that has proved extremely popular with British and other foreign buyers, especially those planning to settle long-term in the region. This side of Puglia has plenty of year-round activity, has good access to the airports (and sea ports) and anGrotte all-round rather more sophisticated standard of living.

There are numerous pretty towns and villages: handsome coastal resorts such as Polignano a Mare and Monopoli, stunning inland centres like Castellana Grotte, with its famous caves, and Ostuni, the legendary ‘white city’, as well as the area round Alberobello, the very cradle of the trullo.

Property on the Adriatic coast of Puglia has much to commend it, but it does tend to be generally a little more expensive than elsewhere.

The Salento area, south of Brindisi and with Lecce as its spectacular Baroque capital city, has far more of the Greek feel and influence.

The Salento, which boasts such historic gems as Gallipoli and Nardo among its finest cities and has some of the most glorious beaches in all Italy, tends to be more favoured by those seeking holiday homes or investments in letting property.

Although the Salento is extremely popular with holidaymakers from the rest of Italy and all parts of Europe during the summer months, much of it is extremely quiet, almost dormant, out of season.

Firefly operates principally in partnership with two real estate agencies in Puglia, one in the Polignano area on the Adriatic coast and the other in the Salento.

Both are reputable, long-established businesses, who know their areas intimately. We know you will be in good hands with either of them.

We also have associations with one or two other, highly reputable, agencies and/or developers, in whom we have total confidence.

Firefly’s role focuses on smoothing the way for potential clients, helping organise viewing arrangements and advising on purchases, so using Firefly as your link to the local markets will not cost you a single extra centissimo.
